the grass is greener on the other side!

Today was another beautiful day. This morning I moved a group of heifers to a fresh pasture.

First I drove them to the pond just incase they wanted a drink.

Most people panic when they are driving cattle to a different pasture and there is a pond near by. That is the last place they want the cattle to go. They think they’ll get in the pond and won’t get out. That is not going to happen. If you handle your cattle properly this is not a concern at all. In fact,  if there is a pond near by I drive them right to it and right on through it.

image

This way you don’t have to worry if they get in the pond, you already know they’re going in the pond, so there’s no worries!

These heifers grabbed a drink and walked right out the other side. Now the only thing they have on their mind is fresh grass.

Maybe you’d like to ask me…

Why are your Grandbabies so adorable?

Why is Bar M Bar Ranch the name you chose for your ranch?

How many dogs do you have?

Do cattle sleep?

Do you know how to ride a horse?

Can you cook or do you just work?

Has your husband dug you a swimming pool in your backyard yet?

Come on ask me something, anything…just DON’T ask me how old I am. You wouldn’t believe me even if I told you!

Have a happy happy day!

good morning!

Be in love with your life. Every minute of it.

the rest of the story!

Last night I posted a picture of my boy and his dog relaxing on the patio. After I took a second look at it I figured you might be wondering why his arm is in a splint, so here’s the story…
A few weeks ago we were processing some cattle. This is where we bring them through our working facility and vaccinate them, deworm them, put an identification tag in their ear, and castrate the bulls so they become steers. Here is the reason we castrate… If you are running a cow (this means momma cows…cows that have had babies or that you want to have babies) herd you will have breeding bulls, but if you run stockers (this means you don’t want your cattle to have babies) you castrate the bulls so they can’t breed. If you don’t do this you will have a mess! Heifers could get bred to bulls that would cause them to have way too big of babies, which most of the time would cause calving difficulties. Sometimes calving difficulties can result in death. So back to the story…during the processing my boy had just finished doing a castration procedure when the bull decided to give him a little kick. The blade from the knife jabbed into Chance’s wrist. Talk about freaking out…I totally did the whole “mother-freaking-out-because-my-offspring-got-hurt” thing! After a few hours we finally talked him in to going to the doctor. How? I told him I’d never fix him desert again! The doctor told Chance that he had cut the tendon that ran his thumb and the doctor had no idea how he had missed cutting the group of tendons, nerves and the main artery! (I did the freaking out thing again.) Surgery was done the next morning and everything was repaired. He will be in a splint for 6 weeks and in therapy. He had a fit about the therapy until the doctor told him he didn’t have to do it, but if he didn’t he wouldn’t be able to use him thumb ever again. He’s taking therapy!
He has been blessed again, this could have been so much worse. I am thankful for doctors!
And there you have…The rest of the story!
